Overview
St Joseph’s University is a Jesuit university at the heart of Bengaluru, the silicon city of India. Established in 1882 by Paris Foreign Mission Fathers, the management of the college was handed over to the Jesuit order (Society of Jesus) in 1937. The college was first affiliated with the University of Madras and later with the Mysore and Bangalore universities. In 1986, St Joseph’s College became the first affiliated college in Karnataka to offer postgraduate programmes. In 1988, it became the first college in Karnataka to get a Research Centre, and in 2005, it was one of five colleges in Karnataka that was awarded academic autonomy. In February 2021, St Joseph's University Bill was presented in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and was subsequently passed by the Legislative Assembly and Karnataka Legislative Councill. The college received its University status on 2 July 2022 and was inaugurated as India’s first Public-Private-Partnership University by the Honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu on 27 September 2022.

CAMPUS MINISTRY
The Campus Ministry at St Joseph's University is a vibrant team of teaching faculty who take care of the corporal and spiritual needs of students and staff members. At the spiritual level, Holy mass is organised every Friday with special emphasis on first Friday masses. Four special masses are celebrated for the inauguration of the academic year, the feasts of St Joseph, St Ignatius of Loyola and Christmas. The Campus Ministry organizes HRD classes for non-Catholic students and theology classes for second-semester Catholic students. All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF), under the guidance of the Campus Ministry, has its own coordinators and is involved in organising masses, as well as various outreach programmes, organizing MAGIS, and attending workshops and conferences.
A group consisting of all religious faculty and students from various congregations in the University named 'SJU Religious' also comes under the auspices of the ministry. The group helps in organising masses and talks. They pray together, have adoration, recite the rosary and conduct spiritual exercises. The Campus Ministry also takes care of the mid-day meal scheme.
CAMPUS FACILITIES
Classrooms
TAll the classroom in the College has ICT facility. The classrooms are designed to provide maximum natural light and air circulation. Comfortable seating arrangements are provided to the students and the faculty members. Considering the increased number of students joining the college the infrastructure keeps expanding on a constant basis. In the last five years, seventeen spacious classrooms were constructed.A staff infirmary, a board room has also been added.
Auditorium
The auditorium is housed in the Auditorium Complex which was inaugurated in 2014. It has excellent acoustics lighting, green room, basement, and necessary service points. Smart seating arrangements are available for 1260 people. The Auditorium Complex also has four Seminar Halls. Approximately hundred people can be seated in each seminar hall. Depending on the requirement of the event the seminar halls comes in various sizes and seating options. All the four halls are ICT enabled along with a small dais for conducting programs.
Library
St Joseph’s University Library is one of the well-stocked university libraries in Karnataka. It regularly subscribes best and top national and international journals, periodicals/magazines and daily newspapers. It caters to the needs of more than 9000 undergraduate, postgraduate and research-level staff and students. The library is fully automated; it has two spacious reading halls and can accommodate two hundred and fifty users at any time. The library operations are managed by the latest version of Koha Integrated Library Management System Software, and the digital library using DSpace software for digital library and institutional repository.
Hostel
St Joseph’s University Hostel in Bengaluru has magnificently designed hostel for men with all necessary amenities for boarding and other recreational activities. The hostel has its own Canteen to provide healthy and hygienic food to the students. The Canteen is maintained on a co-operative basis.
Observatorys
St Joseph's University's observatory affords students a distinctive educational opportunity, enabling them to delve into the intricacies of astrophysics and gain profound insights into the functionality of a telescope. The facility boasts a sophisticated 12-inch Ritchey-Chrétien Telescope, empowering our students to engage in a comprehensive exploration of the celestial sphere and contributing significantly to the advancement of astronomical education within our academic milieu. The observatory is currently run by St Joseph's Astrophysical Society (SAPS)
COUNSELLING SERVICES
We at St Joseph’s University have a team of counsellors who are available for all student support needs throughout the academic year. Our counsellors are well equipped with skills that aide in guiding students throughout their academic, social and personal journey of self-discovery. As a team of counsellors we believe in accepting our students and nurturing their capabilities to the fullest.
A key factor that we give importance to is the concept of confidentiality. We understand that seeking help on campus can bring about some form of worry. However, we assure students complete confidentiality right from the time they approach us until they graduate from our university.
Counselling sessions that are offered to students on campus are free of cost. There is also no limit on the number of sessions a student can avail. We encourage students to make use of this opportunity because there can be strength in vulnerability. Knowing when to ask for help is something that we all need to learn, and it’s sometimes the only thing that matters.
